Dear Brothers and Sisters,

During this time of social restrictions we encourage you to gather together in your homes as a family for worship time – either on Sundays or at any other time during the week. Please feel free to use these resources with your children to guide your Worship @ Home.

from St John’s Worship Team.

Kids @ Home – Those who dream – prepare the way!

Read Mark 1:1-8 and/or watch this movie

Then spend some time talking about how you are getting ready for Christmas and also how you prepare a place for Jesus in your home!

The good news of Jesus Christ—the Message!—begins here, following to the letter the scroll of the prophet Isaiah.

Watch closely: I’m sending my preacher ahead of you;
He’ll make the road smooth for you.
Thunder in the desert!
Prepare for God’s arrival!
Make the road smooth and straight!

4-6 John the Baptizer appeared in the wild, preaching a baptism of life-change that leads to forgiveness of sins. People thronged to him from Judea and Jerusalem and, as they confessed their sins, were baptized by him in the Jordan River into a changed life. John wore a camel-hair habit, tied at the waist with a leather belt. He ate locusts and wild field honey.

7-8 As he preached he said, “The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I’m a mere stagehand, will change your life. I’m baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. His baptism—a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit—will change you from the inside out.”

Light candle.
B: May it remind us that there is another way. Amen.

Activity: Making News

Cut out hearts with card and or newspaper and write good news messages to prepare the way for the Lord:

Activity: Make a straight path!

John was called to make a straight path, a highway, an easy road for people to find Jesus. This started by telling people about Jesus, and by baptism.

Why not make your own highway at home. If you have some toy cars (or anything that will roll) – have some races! Who will finish first?

Here are some links for some ideas:

Race Track from Cardboard

Race Track from Wood

Race Track from Pool Noodles

Dear Father, prepare our hearts for Jesus’ return. Make our crooked ways straight and our rough places smooth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
