Sunday 6th September – Forgiveness

Jesus said:

Speak these words aloud

We belong to the lord, he has claimed us as his in baptism.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Heavenly Father,
We pray for healing and comfort for people around the world suffering from Coronavirus COVID-19. Speed their recovery and slow the spread of the virus. We thank you for the efforts of all those involved in treating, testing and caring for patients, and ask your protection over them as they go about their work. Give wisdom to governments around the world as they manage this outbreak. We ask for your peace when we are tempted to panic or become anxious about this disease. Help us to place our trust in you, knowing that our life is safely hidden in you and that you are the Lord of all creation.
Enable us to show your love to others, sharing the hope we have in you, praying and caring for the sick and needy as best we can in the name of Christ. Amen.

Opening Song

A Prayer to Help you to Forgive others

Father, only you understand how much I’ve been hurt by this person. I don’t want to carry the pain for another second. I don’t want to be a bitter person. But I need your grace and the power of the cross to release my hurt and to forgive those who’ve hurt me. This is the turning point. First, I need to experience your forgiveness. You know all the ways I’ve hurt others, and I’m so sorry for my sins. Jesus, thank you for dying for me. I accept your grace and forgiveness, and I need it daily. Today I’m turning to you, and I’m choosing to forgive the way you have forgiven me. Every time the memory comes back, I’ll forgive that person again until the pain is gone. Heal my heart with your grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Confession

Speak these words aloud, as a family or by yourself.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Pastor’s Message

Prayer

God our Father thank you for having compassion on us.  Thank you for forgiving us the debt of our sin. May your mercy may flow through us and into the world around us. Help us to forgive each other in our homes, our families and congregation. Especially help those who have suffered at the hands of others to overcome their pain, to forgive, and to receive healing.

You have given to your church the keys of the kingdom of heaven: Help your church throughout the world to understand your word, to retain the sins of the unrepentant and forgive those who repent and believe.

Bless the nations of the world. Move the wealthy nations to do justice by cancelling the debts of poorer countries where possible. Be with our country. Guide our Prime Minister and all politicians as they govern our nation.

We thank you for the laws of our land which provide safety and order. Bless our justice system and all who work in it, that people may receive their rights and be encouraged to fulfil their responsibilities.

Lord God, thank you for health care workers and all those who place themselves in harm’s way to provide for our daily needs. Protect them as they go about their duties and give them rest and relief from the strain they carry. Be with those who are sick or receiving medical treatment.

Guide the hands of the doctors and nurses and other health professionals who care for them, and grant them healing according to your will.

Lord, you have compassion on us as a father has compassion on his children. Hear our prayer, and satisfy our needs, and the needs of all for whom we pray.

You may wish to add some of your own prayers here.

Amen.

Lord’s Prayer
