Bible Readings

Luke 24:44-53

He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city
until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Acts 1:1-11

In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and
to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions
through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Apostles’ Creed

Speak these words aloud:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he
will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Pastor’s Message

Prayer

Our Lord and brother, Jesus Christ, has been raised to the right hand of God. Let us
pray to him that he would intercede for us and for all the world before our Father in
heaven.
Mighty God, we pray for those who exercise authority in our country, especially our Prime Minister, and all those involved in federal, state and local levels of government. Strengthen them in these difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic, and help them to make good decisions for the benefit of all.
Ascended Lord, hear our Prayer

Gracious God, we pray for those caught in sin that they may know the freedom which forgiveness brings. Help us to share your love with a world in desperate need of your grace and forgiveness.
Ascended Lord, hear our prayer.

Just and Merciful Father, we pray for the release of captives, especially those unfairly imprisoned, and for lands ruled by oppressive regimes. Let your peace and freedom reign!
Ascended Lord, hear our prayer.

Compassionate God, we pray for justice for the poor. We give thanks to you that we live in a society which makes provision for people in difficult circumstances. Be with all those facing unemployment and all kinds of hardships in our society, and give us eyes to see and hearts to care for them.
Ascended Lord, hear our prayer.

Loving God, we especially pray for those who bear intolerable burdens of illness, grief, or anxiety, especially in this time of COVID-19. Bring healing, comfort and peace. Bless all those who care for the sick. In particular, we bring these people before you…[silence].
Ascended Lord, hear our prayer.

God our loving Creator and Father,

As we reflect on National Sorry Day coming up on Tuesday and Reconciliation Week, we pray

  • for members of the Stolen Generations and their families still experiencing the harmful consequences of forcible separation;
  • for national, regional and local level reconciliation initiatives, including all efforts to improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
  • the work of gospel among all Australians, including those who spread the gospel and serve the people in Central Australia, Cape York, the SA West Coast, and in many of our towns, cities, and rural communities.
  • for the LCA’s Reconciliation Action Plan Project Team and all others involved in the work of preparing and implementing the RAP;
  • for ourselves, that we each might have opportunities to participate in the work of reconciliation and contribute meaningfully to it.

Ascended Lord, hear our prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, our great High Priest, you ascended into heaven, to your Father and our Father, to your God and our God. Always remember us, and never cease to represent our cause before the throne of God, with whom you live and reign, with the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Lord’s Prayer

Blessing

Now the Lord will bless us all,
He will lift us when we fall,
And speed us on our way this year.
He will flood us with his grace,
When he lifts his shining face,
To help us shatter every fear:

And he’ll give us peace, where’er we’re bound, E’er we’re bound,

He’ll give us peace where’er we’re bound.
And we’ll cry Amen where’er we’re bound, E’er we’re bound,
And we’ll cry Amen where’re we’re bound.

  1. Another great service Pastor Milton. Even though we can’t all be together at the moment, you are doing a great job in providing services in our homes. Thank you.
